VILNIUS, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Denmark's renewable energy company European Energy has announced plans to build a 12-megawatt (MW) battery storage facility near the northwestern Lithuanian town of Telsiai and connect it to the grid by mid-2026, the Baltic News Service (BNS) reported on Monday.
"We are very pleased with this development in Lithuania and our venture into this new business area," Tadeusas Konkovskis, vice-president and country manager for Lithuania at European Energy, said in a press release.
"With this battery project, we aim to provide more renewable solutions to the region, enhancing energy independence," he added.
The European Energy said it has secured a state subsidy for the battery project. Construction is set to begin in the last quarter of 2025.
"Beyond Lithuania, the company has announced a battery project in Poland and is actively exploring similar initiatives in other European countries, where energy storage is becoming increasingly vital for balancing the intermittent nature of renewable energy supply with demand," it said. ■
