Kenya's Bett targets redemption at Commonwealth Games

NAIROBI, March 27 (Xinhua) -- World 400m hurdles champion Nicholas Bett is back to his best form, targeting the Commonwealth Games on April 4-15 in Gold Coast, Australia to redeem his career.

A serious stress fracture in the right leg took the wind out of Kenyan, forcing him to forfeit his title without a fight at the London World Championships last year.

After medical rehabilitations in Kenya and Finland,

the 25-year-old suffered relapses in his rehabilitation in May in Shanghai Diamond League meeting.

"It has been nagging me for some time, but I can now say the worst is over," said Bett, Tuesday in Nairobi.

"I am working on getting ready for the Commonwealth Games and after putting my body through strenuous exercise, I can say am fit for the action," he added.

Kenya is using the Commonwealth Games to give young athletes and those making return from injuries a platform to showcase their talent. The country won 23 medals in track and field competition in the last games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.

Elite runners have opted to skip the competition including former 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop and Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha.
